The Shortest Case Against Gun Control. Ever.
After researching gun control almost daily since 2003, I have become firmly convinced that anyone who supports gun control either honestly hasn’t looked into the topic, or dishonestly is deceiving themselves. The facts and statistics are clear. The UK, Australia, DC, Canada, Switzerland — more guns, less crime.
The following will be short, but power-punching. I’ve yet to see any substantial response to the argument. The Brady Bunch generally just ignores the argument. After all, ignoring a problem makes it go away. Not a chance. This is a short summary of my latest post at the RoFF on Gun Control Crime.
Gun control is about lowering crime — the goal is to end up with a net reduction in crime. If we want to see if guns stop more crimes than they “cause”, we just need to look at the statistics. Consider the following: guns are used in 700,000 crimes per year in the US. Let’s pretend “Magic Gunban Man” comes along and actually gets rid of the guns — guns owned by criminals as well. That means that, at best, we lower crime by 700,000.
Now how many times are guns used to prevent crimes? 2,500,000 times. That’s about 3 1/2 times the amount of crimes guns are used in. This means that the overall impact of eradicating guns doesn’t just stop the times guns are used in crimes crinimally — it also stops the times guns were deterring crimes. Impact?
Gun bans have a net increase of 1.8 million crimes. The stats don’t lie. Guns stop more crimes than they stop. If it’s about stopping crime, then free the people. More guns, less crime.
FACT: Gun control kills.
