Huckabee a Conservative?
Mike Huckabee is a former minister, therefore he must be the Christian choice, and all Christians should vote for him, right? Not a chance. He’s fiscally as liberal as it gets in the GOP, and we’ve got better choices before him.
Huck likes government. He likes big government. He likes more government. He likes restrictive government. He even likes taxes. Want proof? His actions couldn’t be screaming it any louder.
Michael Tanner at Cato said the following (emphasis mine):
“Mike Huckabee? As governor, he never saw a tax increase he didn’t love. He presided over a massive increase in state spending, including an expansion of Medicaid, and approved increases in the sales, income, and cigarette taxes. On its annual governor’s report card, Cato gave him an “F” for fiscal policy. Most Democratic governors received higher grades.”
The Club for Growth wrote about Huck recently, looking into his claims at being a fiscal conservative. Wrong label for this politician. The club wrote the following about Huckabee:
“Governor Huckabee says he is a fiscal conservative,” Club for Growth President Pat Toomey said, “but his ten-year economic-policy record as the governor of Arkansas is mixed, at best. His history includes numerous tax hikes, ballooning government spending, and increased regulation. To be sure, Governor Huckabee’s record displays an occasional deference to a pro-growth philosophy, but that is only a small slice of a much bigger picture. The Club for Growth feels citizens deserve a full picture of where Governor Huckabee stands on the critical economic issues of the day.”
Fiscal conservative? Not a chance. He scores lower than Mitt Romney, going by Cato. Proof that being a minister doesn’t make you a great conservative.
This election, I’ll be rooting for nearly everyone before I root for Huck. He isn’t what he claims. Somebody call the GOPolice, we’ve got an impostor in town.
